Orrin is a caregiver robot built by Dr. Tenma. Orrin's main duties are performing household chores and taking care of Toby Tenma. He appears exclusively in the 2009 Astro Boy movie and its official comic adaptation.

Appearance[]

Orrin is a silver and white minimalist android. His construction is very rounded and streamlined, with round eyes, and a blue LED indicator that gives him an animated mouth. Orrin has limited mobility, and is only able to turn his waist, arm joints, and neck. However, this sleek design choice allows for him to glide faster on his wheeled base. He is permanently hunched over, almost resembling a question mark ("?") in shape.

Personality[]

Despite his very mechanical appearance, Orrin acts very much like a human, thanks to Tenma's advanced programming. Orrin is kind and good-natured, but he has frequent bouts of anxiety or bewilderment.

Orrin is reliable and will always follow Tenma's orders to a T. The only way to make him defy an order is to directly mess with Orrin's programming, which Toby has figured out; he at one point even hot-wires Orrin and makes him drive to the Ministry of Science.

Toby Tenma[]

Orrin is treated like family by the rest of the Tenma household. He calls Toby "Master Toby" and treats the boy with great respect, although, Orrin will refuse Toby's demands if it goes against Tenma's orders. When they have fun with paper planes they made, Astro (copy of Toby) gives him a respect, leading Orrin to give his master a gentle smile.

Dr. Tenma[]

Meanwhile, Orrin and Tenma get along quite well. The two initially treat each other as boss and employee, but by the end of the film, they begin to bond as friends. Tenma tells Orrin to have a vacation.
