Simon is a humanoid robot exclusive to The Original Astro Boy. He is a member of Mr. Cacciatore's Robot Circus, and is Astro Boy's first friend in the series.

Appearance

Simon is a basic, outdated humanoid robot. He is made of shiny chrome, with detailed joins and angular features. His eyes are animated red LED lights on a narrow black screen. He is about as tall as an average human male.

Personality

While Simon is an older model of robot, he does have a strong personality. He tries his best to console Astro, whom has just been sold by Dr. Boynton and brought into the abuse of the circus.

Simon is set in his idea that Astro is a potential robot saviour. But, knowing Astro is still a child, Simon repeatedly assures Astro that is is the most powerful and advanced robot in existence, and that nobody can destroy him.

Simon is tremendously friendly and compassionate towards any robot he meets. However, Simon is at best apathetic towards humans. He has witnessed other robots at the circus like Bugsy wishing they could hurt humans, and has ignored or even agreed with this.

History

Simon is one of the older robots belonging to Mr. Cacciatore. He has become a robot supremacist due to years of witnessing and enduring human-on-robot violence. When Astro is brought into the circus, Simon is immediately fascinated by Astro's numerous powers. He tries to become a supportive older brother figure towards Astro, while believing Astro is a potential leader of the robot liberation.

Simon learns that Astro is implanted with a controlling device and robot spider named Bruno, and Simon is eager to further free Astro. Simon proceeds to destroy Bruno's control box when Cacciatore is distracted.

Simon later sends a micro robot named Bugsy into Astro's chest cabinet to chase out Bruno. Unfortunately, Cacciatore calls Boynton to inform him that Astro is no longer under control. Just as Bruno has left Astro's chest and grabbed by Simon, Boynton triggers Bruno's remote detonation, which kills Simon instantly.
