Astro II is an experimental second version of Astro Boy. While he was programmed with the intent of making him more "human", he turns out to be a lecherous layabout. He appears only once in the series, in a oneshot manga chapter in volume 23.
Backstory[]
Astro II was built by order of the Japanese government after Astro's self-sacrifice to save the Earth (as shown in the final episode of Astro Boy, which came out not long before this chapter did). Astro II was built in hopes of creating a more human robot, and a number of experimental procedures went into his production, one of which was the choice to give him humanoid genitalia. This turned out to be disastrous, as Astro II is shown to be greedy, perverted, and with little interest in helping others. Eventually, Astro II was arrested for impersonating Astro Boy, after the government had enough of his antics.
Appearance[]
Astro II has the same appearance as the original Astro: his hair is black and metallic, with two sharp spikes. He predominantly wears a green belt, black shorts, and red boots. However, he carries himself much more sloppily and laidback than the original Astro.
